As we begin our sermon series on the church it is important to acknowledge some realities. Before we consider a correct definition of the church let’s consider what the church is not. The church is not an ark for the saving of a select few. It is not a ferry to transport effortless passengers to the shores of heaven. It is not a life insurance company, with no obligation on policy holders except the payment of a small annual premium. It is certainly not a social club, welcoming certain people and excluding others from its fellowship. It has never been a place where a private agenda is executed.
What the church truly is meant to be is a lifeboat for the rescue of sin-wrecked and perishing souls. It is meant to be a family, in which love, and service are expected from each member to each member. It is an organized community, with constant activities and continual growth and development. It is a gathering place for all people from all backgrounds and all people groups with a common interest in knowing their Savior and embracing their destiny. It has always been a company of believers who have found the one way of life and obey the one Lord of life. Come and join us as we discover the meaning and purpose of the church as defined in the book of Acts. You will be blessed, and our destiny will be fulfilled. God bless you all!
In Jesus’ love,
