Dr. Jerry W. Light, Sr.   -

On Sunday, June 26, we began a new Sunday morning sermon series on Heaven & Hell. There is much misinformation and misnomers concerning these two very real places. It was said that Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as, “Mark Twain” gave some interesting quotes during his lifetime. One such amusing statement was, “Go to heaven for the climate, hell for the company.” He along with others did not realize how horrible hell will be. We do not hear much about hell these days from the pulpits. Many preachers want to give the friendly upbeat sermons that please congregations. I like the statement that, as pastors, we should “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” If pastors do not warn their flocks about hell, they should resign. For if they do not believe that there is such a place, then their flock does not need them as their shepherd. Our Master, King, Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ took the time to speak about hell. In fact he spoke about hell 70 times, so as His representatives we must also remain faithful and obedient to warn others of it.

On the other hand, heaven is much easier to discuss and to wax eloquent about. Unfortunately, much of what is said about heaven has no basis in fact. We will look at the significant scriptural discussions about heaven and what Jesus said about heaven! Please don’t miss a single service. God bless you all!

In Jesus’ love,
